Senior Project Engineer - Highways
Working Pattern: 37 hrs per week - Monday to Friday
Location: West Bridgford, Nottingham
Via is currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Major Projects & Improvements Team based at our Trent Bridge House Office in West Bridgford.
You will design and deliver highway and civil engineering schemes, providing specialist technical knowledge support on and input into all schemes in Via’s Design Consultancy portfolio of work to meet company business plan objectives.
The Job
Key areas of responsibility will include: -
- Design and deliver highway and civil engineering projects including highway geometric alignment, pavement, and drainage design, specification and contract documentation
- Provide specialist design, technical and cost advice to colleagues, clients or external bodies to include checking and approval to relevant standards
- Manage the evaluation and authorisation of externally designed engineering schemes
- Collaborate with Via’s Construction and Commercial Division to manage workflow
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety management systems, processes and requirements ensuring full compliance to health, safety and environmental legislation and policy
- Coach and mentor developing technical expertise of team members
- Manage consultation, communication and liaison with clients and stakeholders including members of the public and elected Members
- Act as an ambassador for individual schemes and the Company across professional, business and community events and networks
The Person
Mainly you will be excited to be a vital part of our Major Projects & Improvements Team, but there are just a few other things we’d like from you: -
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject and post qualification relevant experience or equivalent knowledge gained through practical experience
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer or Engineering Technician and Member of a Professional Institution (relevant discipline) or working towards
- Strong ICT skills including competence in specialist computer applications used to support highway design and civil engineering activities including working knowledge of current computer aided design with 3D design software, Microsoft Office and knowledge of data management environments.
- Extensive working knowledge of current highway design and civil engineering standards, contracts, and current Construction Design Management (CDM) Regulations.
- Extensive working knowledge of health and safety, technical, traffic management and other legislation and good practice
- Experience of providing information, communicating and working collaboratively with internal and external customers, stakeholders and colleagues to achieve delivery objectives.
- Experience of managing project budgets and financial reporting of project programme.
- Experience of all stages of project implementation from feasibility to construction on site.
- A high level of personal drive and commitment to excellent customer care and the ability to set an example to other staff.
