Position Summary
The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for leading and continuously improving The Soundcoat Company's cost estimating and process engineering functions. This role owns the estimating process from customer inquiry through final quotation, ensuring accurate, competitive, and profitable cost estimates that align with manufacturing capabilities and business objectives. The position oversees a team of Cost Estimator/Drafters and serves as the primary technical resource for cost modeling, process planning, manufacturability assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Own and lead the company's cost estimating function, ensuring accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for customer quotations and internal planning.
Lead and manage a team of two Cost Estimator/Drafters, providing guidance, oversight, coaching, and performance development.
Establish, maintain, and continuously improve estimating methodologies, standards, and processes to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Review customer specifications, drawings, and requirements to assess manufacturability, determine production methods, and develop accurate cost estimates.
Develop labor, material, tooling, overhead, and subcontract cost models to support customer quotations and profitability objectives.
Review and approve all cost estimates, process plans, and technical drawings prior to release.
Analyze actual production costs versus estimated costs and implement improvements to enhance estimating accuracy and operational performance.
Perform cost estimating and drafting for complex, high-value, or strategic projects as required.
Interpret and analyze customer prints and specifications to ensure accurate execution and manufacturability.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on process efficiency, cost reduction, waste elimination, and quality enhancement.
Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes, workflows, tooling, and production methods to maximize productivity and profitability.
Conduct process evaluations, time studies, and manufacturing analyses to identify opportunities for operational improvement.
Collaborate closely with Sales, Customer Service, Production, Quality, and Management to support customer requirements and business objectives.
Utilize MRP systems (JD Edwards AS400 ) for planning, costing, and workflow integration.
Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 standards and support quality management system requirements.
Support new product introduction, process development, and manufacturing readiness activities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related field required).
Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, including significant responsibility for cost estimating and process development.
Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technical personnel.
Strong understanding of manufacturing costing principles, including labor, materials, overhead, tooling, and production processes.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Ability to read and interpret customer prints, technical drawings, and specifications.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.
Qualifications
Experience with iGems software.
Experience in an ISO 9001 manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with JD Edwards AS400 MRP system.
Experience in custom manufacturing, engineered-to-order, fabrication, or industrial manufacturing environments.
Experience developing and improving estimating systems, cost models, and quotation processes.
Work Environment
This position operates in a manufacturing environment and requires close interaction with production, customer service, engineering staff, quality assurance, and management.
