Senior / Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services Consultancy
Vertical Recruitment are working exclusively with an established M&E design consultancy with offices across the UK. The business delivers high-quality mechanical, electrical, and sustainable engineering solutions across a wide range of building sectors. They are currently delivering some of the UK’s most exciting projects, including the biggest residential scheme in the country, the tallest residential tower in Yorkshire, and a series of new build schools nationwide.
The team is now looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their South Manchester or city centre office.
This role offers an excellent balance between hands-on mechanical design and client-facing responsibilities. You’ll take ownership of project delivery, building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, architects, and design teams, while ensuring high-quality design output across a variety of building services projects.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design delivery across multi-sector building services projects from concept to completion
* Act as a client-facing engineer, developing briefs, attending meetings, and providing technical guidance
* Produce, review, and coordinate detailed design work, ensuring seamless integration with other disciplines
* Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting technical excellence and professional growth
* Contribute to proposals, bids, and wider business development activity where required
* Ensure compliance with current regulations, standards, and sustainable design practices
* Manage project resources, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful delivery
About You
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
* Chartered or working toward CEng status with CIBSE or IMechE
* 7–10 years’ experience within a UK building services consultancy
* Strong technical design background with experience delivering projects across multiple sectors
* Excellent communication skills, confident in a client-facing capacity
* Ability to coordinate and lead project delivery within multi-disciplinary teams
