The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Senior Power Originator to lead origination efforts for thermal assets in the ERCOT market. This role is responsible for identifying, structuring, and executing complex bilateral power transactions that optimize the value of a thermal portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring deep market knowledge, strong industry relationships, and a proven track record in structuring and closing deals involving gas-fired , tolling agreements, and capacity products.
What you'll do
Originate and structure bilateral power transactions including energy sales, heat rate call options, tolling agreements, and capacity products for thermal assets.
Develop and maintain strategic relationships with load-serving entities, utilities, trading counterparties, and large industrial customers across ERCOT.
Collaborate with asset management, trading, risk, and legal teams to evaluate deal structures, optimize asset value, and ensure alignment with portfolio strategy.
Monitor ERCOT market fundamentals, regulatory developments, and transmission constraints to identify and capitalize on commercial opportunities.
Lead negotiations and manage the full lifecycle of transactions from origination through execution and post-deal performance monitoring.
Represent the company at industry events, ERCOT stakeholder meetings, and regulatory forums.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree ).
710+ years of experience in power origination, trading, or commercial asset management, with a strong focus on thermal and the ERCOT market.
Deep understanding of ERCOT market design, nodal pricing, congestion management, and thermal asset economics.
Demonstrated success in originating and closing complex structured transactions.
Strong financial modeling, valuation, and risk assessment skills.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship management abilities.
Qualifications
Experience with gas supply coordination and fuel optionality in power transactions.
Familiarity with ERCOT's Resource Adequacy framework and market rule changes.
Established network of ERCOT counterparties and market participants.
