Senior Network Engineer - Network Infrastructure Overhaul

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join our team for a critical network infrastructure assessment and remediation project for a client. This role involves analyzing, documenting, and implementing improvements to a complex legacy network environment that requires significant optimization and cleanup. This is a mainly on-site position requiring hands-on technical expertise and strong documentation skills.

• Location: Westlake Village, CA (hybrid environment that will require on-site work and on-call as needed)
• Project Duration: 3+ months (project-based engagement that can extend to implementation work)
• Hourly Rate: $55 - $80/hr

RESPONSIBILITIES

Network Assessment & Documentation

• Conduct comprehensive analysis of existing network infrastructure and configurations
• Deep dive into current network configs across multiple vendor platforms
• Create detailed network diagrams and documentation from scratch
• Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and security vulnerabilities in current setup
• Document existing VLAN structures, routing protocols, and network policies

Network Cleanup & Optimization

• Work with architect/design team to implement optimized network solutions
• Streamline complex, "piece-mealed" network configurations
• Eliminate unnecessary complexity and optimize network performance
• Validate and test network policies and firewall rules
• Remove redundant configurations and unused network resources

Infrastructure Management

• Configure and manage multi-vendor network equipment
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and performance issues
• Implement network security best practices and policies
• Coordinate with fiber provider (Frontier) for connectivity requirements
• Optimize MPLS connections and routing protocols

QUALIFICATIONS

Network Hardware Experience

• Juniper: EX Series switches, SRX firewalls, routing platforms
• Dell: Network switches and infrastructure
• Palo Alto Networks (PANW): Firewalls and security appliances
• Salinas Edge devices

Technical Expertise

• Advanced knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)
• MPLS network configuration and troubleshooting
• VLAN design and implementation
• Network security policy creation and validation
• Strong Linux administration and command-line experience
• Linux-based firewall management and policy optimization
• Experience analyzing and optimizing complex firewall rulesets (1000+ rules)
• Network observability tools and monitoring
• Fiber optic networking and single-provider connectivity management

Documentation & Process

• Strong technical documentation skills
• Network diagramming tools (Visio, Lucidchart, or similar)
• Experience creating comprehensive network inventories
• Ability to translate complex technical configurations into clear documentation

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
• 7+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering
• Strong experience with legacy network cleanup and optimization projects
• Proven track record of documenting complex network environments
• Experience working with multi-vendor network environments
• Industry certifications (CCNP, JNCIP, PCNSE, or equivalent)
