Job Title: Senior Mechanical Estimator
Location: DFW Metroplex, TX (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $90,000 - $120,000 Annually (Based on experience)

Role Overview
The Senior Estimator plays a key role in developing detailed and competitive cost estimates for mechanical construction projects including plumbing, piping, and sheet-metal work. This leadership role supports the Chief Estimator and contributes significantly to the success of the estimating team, particularly on projects valued up to $30M.
Core Responsibilities
- Calculate material, labor, and equipment needs for plumbing systems (DWV, domestic water, gas, medical gas) and mechanical systems (chilled water, condenser water, steam, refrigerant).
- Perform thorough take-offs from drawings, including piping, fittings, valves, equipment, fixtures, and sheet-metal components.
- Oversee multiple estimates at the same time and ensure all submissions meet required deadlines.
- Submit and track RFIs as needed during the pre-bid process.
- Create material matrices that align with project standards and specifications.
- Request, compare, and evaluate proposals from vendors, subcontractors, and partner trades.
- Assemble comprehensive bid packages including scope details, pricing, clarifications, and exclusions.
- Complete all bid forms and required submissions for general contractors.
- Produce recaps and cost breakdowns (Excel-based) for management approval.
- Lead internal review meetings to validate final estimates.
- Prepare all compliance-related documentation in line with company SOPs.
- Act as a key contact throughout post-bid and pre-award stages.
- Facilitate project handoff meetings with the operations team once a job is awarded.
Required Background
- Strong attention to detail and analytical abilities
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead estimating efforts and work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Excellent time management, especially when juggling multiple bids
- Skilled in negotiating pricing with subcontractors and vendors
- Ability to identify cost, scope, or schedule risks
- Financial understanding of cost models, recaps, and proposal structures
- Technical college degree OR Journeyman plumber/pipefitter experience in place of a degree
- At least 5 years of commercial construction estimating experience
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access), Quikpen, and AutoCAD
- Strong collaboration skills and familiarity with construction management processes
- Background in HVAC, plumbing, or MEP estimating
- Experience estimating building automation or controls systems
- Previous experience mentoring or supervising other estimators
