Job Description

Turner & Townsend is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Estimator to join our growing team. This role is ideal for an experienced professional with a strong background in mechanical estimating, particularly within commercial, data center, industrial, or high-tech construction environments. While mechanical estimating is the core focus, experience with electrical and plumbing systems (MEP) is a strong advantage.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of mechanical cost estimates across all project phases—from conceptual through detailed design.
  • Deliver accurate and timely cost plans and estimates to support client decision-making.
  • Collaborate with design and project teams to provide cost input during feasibility studies, procurement planning, and value engineering.
  • Manage the full procurement lifecycle: pre-qualification, bid analysis, reporting, and contract documentation.
  • Conduct cost checks, valuations, and change control processes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Produce and present monthly cost reports and final accounts to clients.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators and cost consultants.
  • Maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities for new business.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating tools, templates, and best practices.
  • Analyze historical cost data and market trends to inform future estimates.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to validate pricing and scope.
  • Support risk and contingency analysis during preconstruction phases.
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical estimating for large-scale commercial or high-tech construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems as they relate to building construction.
  • Familiarity with electrical and plumbing estimating (MEP) is a plus.
  • Proficient in estimating software and tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Navisworks, Bluebeam).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience advising clients on value engineering, life cycle costing, and procurement strategies.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working with high-profile clients and navigating complex stakeholder environments.
