A reputable and growing multidisciplinary design firm in Collingswood, NJ is seeking a Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering Department Manager to lead their mechanical engineering team.
This is a direct hire opportunity through our staffing agency, representing a client that values collaboration, innovation, and purpose-driven work in the architecture, engineering, and planning industry.
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Department Manager will play a critical leadership role in the success of the firm’s engineering practice. This position is ideal for a senior mechanical engineer with 10+ years of HVAC design experience, who has a strong background in managing engineering projects, mentoring team members, and working on multifamily, commercial, or institutional buildings.
The selected candidate will manage the design and execution of HVAC systems from concept through construction, interface with clients and internal teams, and contribute to strategic growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities

Lead design and development of mechanical/HVAC systems for various building types

Oversee technical drawing production, specifications, cost estimating, and system analysis

Manage multiple projects and coordinate with architectural and engineering teams

Represent the firm in client meetings, contractor coordination, and code official interactions

Supervise and mentor junior engineers; contribute to hiring and training

Monitor project schedules, budgets, and manpower allocations

Assist with marketing, business development, and proposal efforts
Qualifications
Required:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.)

At least 10 years of experience in HVAC design and engineering

Active PE license in NJ or PA (must have one and be able to obtain the other)

Experience with multifamily, commercial, educational, or healthcare projects

Strong knowledge of mechanical codes and project management principles

Excellent communication and organizational skills

Energy-efficient and sustainable design experience

Proficiency in ArchiCAD or AutoCAD

Field experience with assessments and punch lists

Technical writing or QA/QC experience
Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $110,000 – $135,000 annually (based on experience and qualifications)
