Senior Mechanical Engineer – Capital Projects & Process Improvement
West Chicago, IL | $110,000–$130,000 | ✈️ Up to 25% Travel
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in process or chemical manufacturing environments. This is a critical, long-term role supporting facility improvements, capital projects, and advanced troubleshooting of production systems.
The ideal candidate is a problem-solver who thrives in both hands-on technical troubleshooting and strategic project management—someone who can design, budget, and deliver impactful engineering solutions while mentoring and training others on best practices.
What You’ll Do

Lead and manage capital projects, including equipment installation, upgrades, and ROI analysis.

Troubleshoot and optimize mechanical, motion, and hydraulic systems across multiple facilities.

Develop and modify processes, equipment designs, and work instructions to improve performance and reliability.

Support maintenance teams with complex troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide technical training as needed.
What We’re Looking For

10+ years of mechanical engineering in chemical, food & beverage, packaging, or process manufacturing.

Strong background in troubleshooting hydraulics, motion systems, and mechanical processes.

Proven track record leading capital projects (budgets, schedules, ROI).

Proficient with AutoCAD (mechanical/electrical/architectural drawings).

Knowledge of instrumentation devices and basic PLC troubleshooting.

Strong problem-solving, communication, and project leadership skills.
Bonus Points For

Six Sigma Black Belt or other continuous improvement certifications.

Experience in printing, packaging, coatings, or ink-related industries.

Hands-on exposure to food & beverage or chemical manufacturing processes.
