Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Lowestoft Salary: Up to £50,000 per annumAre you a seasoned Mechanical Design Engineer who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges and bringing bespoke vehicle concepts to life? This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior, hands-on role where every project is unique, every solution is custom, and your engineering judgement truly matters.About the Role Youll lead the full design and development of bespoke industrial vehicles , owning the entire product lifecycle from concept through to production. Working at the forefront of custom vehicle engineering, youll translate demanding client requirements into practical, high-performance designs while guiding multidisciplinary teams and shaping technical direction.This is not a mass-production environment its a place for engineers who enjoy variety, innovation and real-world impact.What Youll Be Doing Technical Leadership Set design strategy, approve engineering outputs and act as the authority on technical decisions.Bespoke Product Development Turn client concepts into detailed CAD designs using advanced modelling, simulation and prototyping tools.Project Delivery Manage multiple projects, mitigate risks early and support builds through production and commissioning.Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with sales, manufacturing, procurement, service teams and directly with clients.Compliance & Standards Ensure all designs meet safety, regulatory and documentation requirements with full traceability.Innovation & Improvement Drive continuous improvement and explore emerging technologies including electrification and automation.Team Leadership Mentor engineers, lead design reviews and help build a high-performing technical team.Customer Focus Deliver solutions that exceed expectations in quality, usability and value.What Youll Bring Strong background in mechanical and systems engineeringProven experience in bespoke or low-volume vehicle designConfident project leadership and sound engineering judgementSolid understanding of manufacturing processes and cost considerationsAdvanced CAD skills (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) plus FEA/DFM familiarityDeep knowledge of vehicle systems, safety and complianceRequirements Degree in Mechanical, Automotive or related engineering discipline1015+ years experience in vehicle or industrial designProven track record delivering full product development programmesExperience leading multidisciplinary engineering teamsDesirable: Chartered status, Masters degree, exposure to EV, composites or advanced simulation tools.Why This Role Stands OutTPBN1_UKTJ
