Are you a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with experience designing high-speed automation systems?
I’m currently recruiting for an exciting Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role with a fast-growing technology company based in Reading. This business is developing cutting-edge automation systems with a real-world impact – and they’re now scaling production.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on innovative engineering challenges involving robotics, mechatronics, and precision manufacturing. You’ll be working across multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electronics, and software) to deliver robust, scalable automation systems for 24/7 operation.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead mechanical design of automation modules and systems
*
Design and optimise precision mechanisms for handling small objects at high volume
*
Ensure integration of mechanical designs with electrical and software teams
*
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across design processes
*
Support rapid prototyping, testing, and design validation
*
Drive improvements in manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability
What You’ll Need:
*
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
*
5+ years of experience in mechanical product development
*
SolidWorks proficiency (or similar CAD)
*
Strong background in automation, robotics, or mechanical handling systems
*
Experience with DFM, GD&T, and creating detailed 2D manufacturing drawings
*
Familiarity with motors (stepper/servo), material transfer mechanisms, and small-part assembly
*
Prototyping experience – ideally 3D printing, CNC machining or similar
Desirable (Not Essential):
*
Experience with fluid handling (pumps, valves, nozzles)
*
Experience working in food, medical, pharma, or regulated environments
*
Exposure to control systems, electrical panels or PCB integration
*
Prior work in R&D, start-ups or low-volume precision manufacturing
