Senior Materials Engineer

Location: Chelmsford

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience



A leading global technology company is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join their Chelmsford site. This innovative organisation develops advanced solutions across multiple industries, including aerospace, defence, automation, environmental monitoring, electronics, and medical research.



This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Materials Engineer with a background in electronic manufacturing to support cutting-edge production and drive technical improvements.

Key Responsibilities:



Support manufacturing teams to ensure suitable processes and components

Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions

Work in a laboratory environment alongside technicians and engineers

Perform material and assembly investigations using SEM, EDX, and microscopy

Produce clear, detailed technical reports for internal customers

Manage and maintain laboratory equipment

Advise on material properties, joining methods, and design suitability



Skills and Experience Required:



Experience in material analysis using light microscopy and SEM/EDX

Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills

Knowledge of brazing, welding, and high-temperature joining techniques

Understanding of metallurgy of copper, nickel-copper alloys, steels, and braze alloys

Experience in adhesive selection and properties analysis

Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications

Experience with mechanical and non-destructive testing

Background in vacuum electronic assemblies is desirable

Candidates must hold a British Passport
