Position Overview
We're looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Marine Propulsion Engineer / Mechanical Engineer to join our dedicated maritime engineering team at the Coast Guard. In this role, you will play a key part in designing and developing ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and conducting trade studies to determine optimal propulsion configurations. Your expertise will help ensure our vessels meet the highest performance, safety, and efficiency standards, supporting both government and commercial shipbuilding programs.
Required Skillset

- Proficient in developing ship propulsion and control systems.
- Experience with reviewing and developing technical data packages.
- Skilled in designing machinery arrangements and conducting weight assessments.
- Experienced in performing trade studies on propulsion system configurations and associated components.
- Knowledge of ABS, NVR, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.

Required Experience & Certifications

- Minimum 6 years' documented experience in ship propulsion and control systems, machinery arrangements, weight assessments, and propulsion component trade studies.
- At least 1 year of experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs (required).
- Additional certifications such as PE License, PMP, DHS Systems Engineering Certification, or DHS Program Management Certifications are .
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs is a plus.

Education
Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in a Technical, Engineering, or Marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution, related to the field of work.
Clearance Requirements
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
