Senior Manager - Planning & Scheduling

Reporting to: Vice President, Electric Operations & Projects

Location: Augusta, ME

Work Type: Office

The base salary range for this position is dependent upon experience and location, ranging from $132,000 to $165,000 plus up to 16% bonus

Summary:

The Senior Manager of Planning & Scheduling will support Electric Operations with developing and overseeing long-term and short-term plans for electric distribution and transmission operations, including but not limited to coordinating with engineering, field operations, and contractors to align schedules with project goals, and to ensure alignment with the annual O&M and Capital workplan, monthly and weekly schedules, and tracking progress against the plan.

This position is responsible for developing a centralized work scheduling and resource planning strategy that promotes strategic decision making, improves forecasting ability, and optimizes resource utilization throughout CMP’s service territory. This position is also responsible for the organization and management of the Electric Operations field workload through accurate forecasting, staffing calculations, and scheduling and management reports. This position ensures that work plans and schedules facilitate timely and cost-effective completion of all capital workload including new business, compliance and mandated work, system reliability, and maintenance construction. This position establishes guidelines for integrating scheduling for engineering/design, planning and construction activities, and coordinates the work plans and schedules for all Electric Operations' Maintenance & Construction activities. Assists with the development of an overall contractor strategy within Electric Operations and analyzes contractor resource levels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee centralized work scheduling and planning across Electric Operations with a focus on improving organizational performance and promoting integrated planning and project completion, including preparation and prioritization of work plans and schedules, resource and materials requirements and forecasts, and coordinates with other process owners for optimal resource utilization.
  • Responsible for the integrated resource plan and schedule to execute the Electric Operations annual work plan including engineering and design support for timely delivery of project plans, specifications, drawings and permits. Develop an annual forecast of internal and external resource needs.
  • In collaboration with the management team, set the direction of contract strategy and contract management philosophy to minimize cost and maximize quality and timeliness.
  • Responsible for the integrated analytical assessment of internal and external resources to drive project completion.
  • Identify, develop and implement work process and best practices for overall planning and scheduling. Identify potential risks in operations or scheduling and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Manage performance by reviewing and evaluating work of employees. Build consensus and communicate performance measures and expected performance levels. Assess and improve team and employee performance through coaching.
  • Oversee development of area staff. Develop a mindset of ownership and employee accountability for outcomes and consistent level of productivity and quality of work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related discipline, with 5 years relevant experience; or an Associate’s degree and 10 years of relevant experience; or a High School Diploma and 15 years of relevant experience in electric operations, transmission, distribution, system design, or engineering.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of transmission and distribution issues and activities within the electric utility industry.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Knowledge of electric maintenance delivery practices.
  • Ability to proactively monitor changing industry trends and develop appropriate strategies/plans.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting abilities; strategic decision maker.
  • Excellent communication and leadership.
  • Deep understanding of electrical systems and safety protocols.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.
  • PMP Certification (Project Management Professional).
  • Contractor oversight/management experience.
