Senior Hydrologist / Flood Modeller\n Location: Hemel Hempstead\n Hybrid: 3 days office / 2 days remote\n\nAre you an experienced Hydrologist or Flood Modeller looking to play a key role in delivering sustainable and resilient water management solutions? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a leading consultancy renowned for its expertise in hydrology, flood risk, and environmental design.\n\nYou'll be joining a team of specialist engineers and hydrologists who work on major residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments across the UK. This role offers genuine technical variety - from Flood Risk Assessments and detailed drainage strategies to developing water-sensitive designs that promote sustainability and resilience.\n\nThe Role\n\nAs a Senior Hydrologist / Flood Modeller, you'll take the lead in assessing, designing, and delivering hydrological solutions that support sustainable land development and water management.

You'll also have the opportunity to mentor junior staff, support business development, and shape technical strategy within the hydrology team.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nPrepare Flood Risk Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) chapters, and outline drainage strategies.\n\nContribute to and review concept and detailed drainage designs.\n\nApply hydrological and hydraulic modelling software to support flood modelling and design activities.\n\nAdvise on flood risk policy, water quality improvements, and sustainable drainage design.\n\nManage project timelines, budgets, and client relationships effectively.\n\nProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and hydrologists.\n\nStay up to date with legislation, design standards, and best practices in flood risk management.\n\nAbout You\n\nDegree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.\n\nChartered or working towards chartership with CIWEM (or similar).\n\nStrong experience delivering Flood Risk Assessments, SuDS, and hydrology reports.\n\nProficient in software such as Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, HEC-RAS, FEH, and WINFAP-FEH.\n\nFamiliar with AutoCAD, WinDES, and ideally ground modelling tools (e.g., PDS).\n\nExcellent report writing, communication, and team collaboration skills.\n\nCapable of managing multiple projects and mentoring junior team members.\n\nWhy Apply?\n\nCompetitive salary and performance-related bonus.\n\nHybrid and flexible working arrangements.\n\nOngoing professional development and mentoring.\n\nInvolvement in diverse, high-profile projects across the UK.\n\nSupportive, collaborative, and knowledge-sharing team culture.\n\nIf you're ready to take the next step in your hydrology career and join a consultancy that values innovation, technical excellence, and work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you.\n\nPenguin Recruitment is operating as a Recruitment Agency for this position.
