ob Title: Senior Hydrologist\n Location: Birmingham\n Hybrid: Flexible / Hybrid\n\nPosition Summary\n We are recruiting an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join a leading environmental consultancy in Birmingham. This is an opportunity to work on a wide range of projects across flood risk, drainage, and water resources, supporting both private and public sector clients. You'll play a key role in delivering technically robust solutions while mentoring junior staff and contributing to business growth.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nLead Flood Risk Assessments, sustainable drainage strategies (SuDS), and hydrological modelling.\n\nPrepare high-quality technical reports, assessments, and recommendations for planning and development projects.\n\nSupport project delivery from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation.\n\nLiaise with clients, local authorities, and statutory bodies, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant, and cost-effective.\n\nMentor and guide junior engineers, sharing expertise across the team.\n\nStay current with industry standards, guidance, and regulations.\n\nRequirements\n\nDegree (BSc / BEng) in Hydrogeology, Civil Engineering, or related discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable.\n\nChartered status or working toward Chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, IES, IEMA, GeolSoc).\n\nMinimum 3-5 years' professional experience in flood risk and drainage projects.\n\nProficiency in hydraulic and hydrological modelling software (e.g., FEH, WinFAP FEH, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, HEC-RAS) and AutoCAD.\n\nExcellent communication, project management, and mentoring skills.\n\nFull UK driving licence.\n\nBenefits\n\nCompetitive salary\n\nFlexible working and hybrid options\n\nPension and private healthcare\n\nCareer development support, including CPD and mentoring\n\nOpportunity to work on high-profile, impactful projects\n\nPenguin Recruitment is operating as a Recruitment Agency for this position.
