Senior Health and Safety Advisor

Job Description

Nicholas Associates is partnered with a well-known groundworks sub-contractor based in the West Midlands, they provide a groundworks and civil engineering service to the construction industry. They are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor.\n\nThis is a highly skilled and experienced role that will lead all project advisory activities and facilitate both compliance and continual improvement in work activities, processes, and safe working behaviours.\n\nMain Responsibilities:\n\nAdvising - supporting teams with technical advice on matters arising, ensuring supervisory/management roles are equipped and capable of delivering successful projects.\n\nInspections - conducting comprehensive inspections, ensuring timely reporting, and actions are clearly communicated, escalating concerns as appropriate.\n\nProject Reviews - participate in relevant project reviews, both routine meetings and special events arising.\n\nInvestigations - conducting timely root cause analysis investigations, liaison with key stakeholders, agreeing learning, and communicating actions.\n\nExternal Stakeholder Co-operation - engagement of various stakeholders including clients, PC, and supply chain.\n\nSafe Working Practices - support the company and project team with the development, evolution, and deployment of safe systems of work.\n\nImprovement Projects - leading continual improvement projects arising to support process improvement, zero harm, behavioural change and culture.\n\nReporting to the SHEQ Director, you will become an integral role of an expanding compliance function, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in business review meetings.\n\nThe role will involve travel across our contracts and project sites.\n\nEducation:\n\n· NEBOSH Qualification (construction) or equivalent\n\n· IOSH Membership\n\n· Valid CSCS Affiliated Card\n\nKnowledge & Skills (Essential):\n\n· Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines\n\n· Good investigation and problem-solving skills\n\n· Ability to produce reports and develop relevant policies\n\n· Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability\n\n· Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessments\n\n· Excellent organisational and motivational skills\n\n· Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities\n\n· IT literate\n\n· Excellent communication skills both verbal and written\n\nExperience (Essential):\n\n· Experience in Groundworks or civil engineering\n\n· Ability to raise awareness and improve safety culture\n\n· Proactively leading and managing the HSE Management policies, procedures, and practices\n\n· Ability to train and develop staff, improving their understanding and capabilities\n\n· Ability to work in a pro-active, cooperative manner with client, contract, and site staff to improve performance and minimise non-conformances on site\n\nIf you are interested in this position, please contact John Ashcroft on (phone number removed) to discuss the opportunity further.\n\nAbout Us\n\nWe are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.
