Job Description
Position: Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer / Senior Geotechnical Engineer\n Location: South Yorkshire (projects across the UK)\n Contract: Full-time, permanent\n\nThis is a full-time, permanent role working as part of an experienced Sheffield-based team that supports seven UK offices and delivers projects nationwide. You will contribute to a wide range of geotechnical and land contamination projects across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, regeneration, and local government.\n\nWhat to Expect\n\nAs a Senior Geo-Environmental Engineer, you will be involved in both the planning and delivery of project investigations, balancing office-based project management with site work. Your responsibilities will span geo-environmental and geotechnical investigations, data interpretation, report writing, geotechnical design, and site supervision for remediation and earthworks.\n The role is ideal for someone proactive, detail-oriented, motivated, and comfortable working with a wide range of people.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCompleting Preliminary Risk Assessments (Phase 1 Desk Studies) and intrusive site investigations in accordance with standards and industry guidance.\n\nPlanning and managing Phase 2 investigations, including health and safety considerations, CDM compliance, and procuring subcontractors.\n\nOverseeing fieldwork activities, including supervising drilling and excavation operations, conducting gas and groundwater monitoring, sampling groundwater and surface water, logging soils and rocks, and carrying out in-situ testing.\n\nUndertaking geotechnical design work, including slope stability assessments and settlement analysis.\n\nSupervising remediation and earthworks projects, ensuring all works meet the approved specification, and liaising with contractors throughout.\n\nScheduling soil, rock and water samples for geotechnical and chemical laboratory testing.\n\nBalancing time between site and office-based tasks, with occasional travel requiring overnight stays.\n\nProducing factual and interpretative reports, earthworks specifications, remediation strategies, and validation reports.\n\nAssisting senior staff in the preparation of proposals.\n\nAbout You\n\nMinimum BSc degree in Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science or a related discipline.\n\n7-10 years of relevant professional experience.\n\nSolid understanding of CDM Regulations and experience in site management.\n\nExperience supervising trial pitting, windowless sampling and other intrusive investigations, including managing subcontractors and ensuring on-site safety.\n\nRock core logging experience is beneficial but not essential.\n\nDemonstrable experience supervising and validating remediation and earthworks projects, with a track record of ensuring compliance with specifications.\n\nExperience in assessing, investigating, and treating shallow mine workings.\n\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly technical report writing.\n\nStrong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.\n\nAble to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.\n\nAdaptable, flexible, and proactive.\n\nProficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Openground software is an advantage.\n\nCommitment to professional development and membership of (or working towards membership of) a relevant professional body.\n\nExperience supporting and mentoring junior colleagues.\n\nFull UK manual driving licence and access to your own vehicle.\n\nSalary & Benefits\n\nSalary commensurate with experience.\n\nCompetitive contributory pension scheme.\n\nFree life assurance.\n\nEmployee discount scheme for savings on everyday purchases.\n\nFlexible benefits package, including options for additional leave, EV salary sacrifice, cycle-to-work scheme and private healthcare.\n\nSupport with ongoing professional development, pathways to chartership, and payment of professional membership fees.\n\nAccess to a company van for work-related travel.\n\nEmployee social fund with quarterly events organised locally
