Job Description:
The Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Surface Combat Systems Training Command (SCSTC) has a requirement for technical and engineering support in the systems engineering, integration, maintenance, documentation, and development and operation of training simulations. SimIS seeks a Senior Field Engineer to provide advanced technical leadership and engineering support for shore-based training (SBT) simulator and simulation systems at SCSTC. This position requires expertise in complex military simulation systems, configuration management, and engineering analysis to ensure optimal performance of training environments. The Senior Field Engineer serves as the primary technical authority for system integration, upgrades, and troubleshooting of advanced naval combat systems simulators.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in military simulation systems, preferably AEGIS or naval combat systems
- Advanced knowledge of DIS/HLA simulation standards and protocols
- Experience with system integration and configuration management
- Travel Required: 25%
Technical Skills:
- DoD 8140 System Administrator (451) intermediate certification required
- Security+ or equivalent cybersecurity certification
- : AEGIS system certifications, PMP or equivalent project management certification
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interface with government and contractor organizations at senior levels
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering analysis and support for simulator system integration efforts
- Provide technical oversight for computer program upgrades and system modifications
- Develop and review engineering change proposals (ECPs), specification changes, and technical documentation
- Lead configuration management activities and support Configuration Control Boards
- Conduct engineering studies to enhance simulator realism and training effectiveness
- Interface with government organizations including CSEDS, IWSL, and SCSC
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to project teams
- Review and approve technical specifications and design documents
- Support Aegis Curriculum Management Board (ACMB) and Aegis Configuration Control Board meetings
- Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity and system administration requirements
