Senior Engineer Stratford, London £55,000 per annum Full Time – 45 hours per week Start Date: February 2026 Permanent An established and highly respected UK civil engineering contractor is seeking a Senior Engineer to join their team in East London. This privately owned business has over 40 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure schemes across the water, transport, built environment and energy sectors. Operating as a Tier 1 contractor on long-term frameworks and complex standalone projects, they have built a strong reputation for technical excellence, direct delivery capability, and investing in their people. With a workforce of over 1,000 employees nationwide, they continue to secure significant infrastructure projects across the UK. This role offers the opportunity to be involved from design phase through to delivery on a complex remediation package involving bridge structures and trunk sewer works across live rail and road interfaces. It is a technically challenging, high-profile scheme within the water sector. The Role The Senior Engineer will support the Sub Agent and wider site team in delivering the project safely, on programme and to the highest quality standards. You will take a leadership role in site engineering activities, temporary works coordination, quality management, and mentoring junior engineers. This is a hands-on leadership position with real influence over project methodology, risk mitigation and commercial performance. Key Responsibilities You will establish and manage level and survey control, leading critical setting out activities and ensuring accuracy at all stages of the works. The role includes overseeing the production and implementation of RAMS, ITPs and quality documentation, compiling and briefing Quality Management Plans, and managing pre-construction processes including stakeholder consents and permits. You will deputise for the Site or Sub Agent when required, maintain short-term lookaheads and construction programmes, and chair site meetings while producing accurate and timely reports. You will provide line management to Site and Junior Engineers, mentoring and developing engineering staff to maintain high performance standards. The role involves leading toolbox talks, driving high standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance, and supporting recruitment and ongoing development within the engineering team. From a commercial and client perspective, you will support cost control and forecasting, identify and notify variations in line with contract requirements, and maintain detailed site records and diaries. You will build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and stakeholders while contributing to the procurement of subcontractors and temporary works solutions. Requirements Applicants should hold a Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and have proven experience in civil engineering projects including highways, reinforced concrete and general infrastructure works. Experience within the water sector is highly desirable. A strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and CDM regulations is essential, along with a valid CSCS card and SMSTS certification. Experience using AutoCAD, strong reporting and record-keeping ability, and the confidence to challenge designs and resolve technical issues are also required. Candidates must demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. Additional desirable qualifications include IOSH Managing Safely, Temporary Works Coordinator certification, Confined Space training, Lift Supervisor or Coordinator certification, and experience delivering complex remediation or structural packages.
