Job Description
Role description
We are recruiting a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to take technical ownership of mixed‑signal hardware that supports RF and microwave products across telecoms, space, high‑altitude platforms and defence. You will design analogue and digital circuitry that interfaces directly with RF subsystems, working from early concept through to verified, production‑ready designs. The role involves close collaboration with RF, FPGA, firmware and systems engineers to ensure that electronic designs meet electrical, thermal, reliability and manufacturability requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Lead mixed‑signal circuit design including analogue signal conditioning, bias networks, filters and low‑voltage power architectures suitable for RF and microwave applications.
- Design high‑speed digital sections using FPGAs, processors, ADCs, DACs and supporting logic, ensuring timing integrity and robust interfacing.
- Define PCB stack‑up, materials and constraints, including low‑loss RF substrates where required, and guide layout for signal integrity, EMC performance and microwave behaviour.
- Integrate high‑speed serial and control interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, CAN, I2C and SPI.
- Perform simulation and component evaluation, ensuring choices support RF chain requirements and long‑term availability.
- Conduct lab bring‑up, verification and design optimisation using oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, VNAs and logic analysers.
- Complete reliability activities including thermal analysis, derating assessments, MTBF modelling and tolerance analysis.
- Contribute to design reviews, risk mitigation, obsolescence management and preparation of technical documentation.
- Support system‑level integration, root cause analysis and product introduction into manufacturing.
Essential requirements
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in analogue and digital circuit design that supports RF or microwave systems.
- Proficiency with schematic capture tools, ideally Altium.
- Skilled in lab validation using common RF, digital and mixed‑signal test equipment.
- Understanding of DSP concepts at the system level and their hardware implications.
- Knowledge of EMC design and design for manufacture in SMT environments.
Desirable requirements
- Hands‑on experience designing RF or microwave circuitry or supporting RF layout constraints.
- Experience with SDR platforms or high‑speed converter‑based architectures.
- Familiarity with EM modelling or RF layout considerations such as controlled impedance, grounding and isolation.
- Experience with reliability qualification processes in aerospace, defence or telecoms environments.
Please note that five years of in the UK is required for SC clearance
