Overview

The power market continues to grow and evolve, with strong capacity demand signals. HDR’s Power team is expanding. We are seeking a qualified

Senior Electrical Power Engineer

to help clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy projects while serving as Owner’s Engineer and/or Advisor.

Location options include: Austin, Ann Arbor, Boise, Bismarck, Billings, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Irvine, Fort Worth, Houston, Honolulu, Kansas City, Madison, Minneapolis, Missoula, Omaha, Phoenix, Portland (OR & ME), Richmond, Raleigh, Sacramento/Folsom, San Diego, Seattle, Spokane, St. Louis, Syracuse.

Responsibilities

Lead power design projects in utility-scale and renewable energy contexts, including traditional Owner’s Engineer roles.

Provide expertise in power and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, and balance of plant design (e.g., raceways, lighting, grounding).

Develop construction and equipment specifications; mentor junior engineers; manage client relationships; and lead marketing activities such as proposal writing, development, and WBS development in response to proposals.

Demonstrate significant design and engineer-of-record experience with power plant systems; mentor staff as needed; collaborate with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews.

Travel less than 10% for client meetings, vendor meetings, and site visits as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis ().

Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical power design ().

Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power ; experience with engineering power consulting or EPC firms is desirable.

Excellent communication, written and organizational skills; strong leadership capabilities for independent work or leading multi-discipline teams.

Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, settings development, grounding, and related design activities including lighting and life-safety systems.

Proficiency with project reviews and client interactions; ability to direct engineering teams and mentor staff.

Proficiency with standard Office software and Power Market Sector design tools (examples: PLS-CAD, AutoCAD, Plant3D, AutoPIPE, Revit).

Active engagement as part of HDR’s employee-owned culture.

Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng license.

Experience in power market project execution and ability to work as a lead on multi-discipline projects.
