We are hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer, this will be a hybrid role that will require to be onsite often. Must be local to the Des Moines, Iowa area.
This position plays an important role in developing, maintaining, and executing product designs that keep impaired drivers off the road and enable drivers to get responsibly back behind the wheel. As part of a high-performing technical team, your work will be a critical part of innovative new product development and ensuring our current product supports our business growth.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Design and implement automotive interfacing electromechanical systems with embedded processors, analog and digital sensors and controls, including PCB design and layout.
- Design communication buses with I2C, USB and UART, embedded and ARM processors.
- Design communication platforms for cell, Bluetooth, WiFi, IoT and embedded systems functions.
- Collaborate with Engineering and non-engineering team members to establish design requirements in an agile environment.
- Use creativity and engineering principles to design custom components and integrate with off-the-shelf components.
- Estimating and tracking program/project budgets.
- Performs patent reviews/evaluations and contributes to the patent portfolio.
- Collaborate with the test lab team to create test plans and establish ongoing and validation test protocols.
- Design custom test and automation fixtures.
- Develop and track product configuration analysis.
- Identify and implement replacement solutions for end-of-life components.
- Collaborate with suppliers to achieve desired functionality from purchased components
- Prepare technical presentations, reports and other design documentation.
- Utilize engineering experience, technical investigation skills, and experimental testing to determine the root cause of device failures.
- Present findings and provide recommendations on project and product direction to business leaders.
- All other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring to the Table:
- BS electrical or computer engineering, or similar 4-yr technical degree.
- Minimum of 4 years’ electrical product design experience.
- Proficiency with electronics hardware development and working knowledge of interfacing with mechanical hardware.
- Proficiency working with external suppliers and supply management to resolve supply chain issues
- Proficiency with PCB design in Altium, schematics, gerbers and other artifacts/tools.
- Proficiency with digital and analog hardware design & diagnosis, experience with fuel cells is desirable.
- Experience with USB, UART, I2C, Bluetooth, WiFi and IoT platforms.
- Proficiency with production environments and able to collaborate with production staff to develop manufacturing solutions.
- Proficiency with project management and the product development cycle.
- Experience with PLM software, Arena is desirable.
- Experience with breath sampling technology, user experience design and handheld technologies is desirable.
- Knowledge of automotive ODB-II, CAN, LIN, is a plus.
- Travel to suppliers or customer sites, about 5-10% possible.
