Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA
Salary: $95,000+ (commensurate with experience)

About the Opportunity
A well-established industrial automation manufacturer is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to design, develop, and lead automation and control system projects supporting precision metal forming and manufacturing processes.
The ideal candidate thrives in a hands-on environment, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and takes ownership from concept through commissioning on a mix of small-scale and large-visibility projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, programming, and debugging of electrical and automation control systems.
- Develop master plans, automation strategies, and software configurations to support project objectives.
- Design and document electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and logic systems for sequencing, timing, and control.
- Write and debug multi-station PLC programs, device drivers, and HMI/MMI interfaces.
- Establish and maintain electrical design standards, documentation, and change control procedures.
- Determine power, load, and safety requirements while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Conduct system testing, design verification, and quality assurance.
- Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions for equipment performance issues.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and controls engineers on integrated system solutions.
- Source and recommend appropriate components, suppliers, and technologies for automation systems.
- Manage project scope, timelines, and budgets while delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field required.
- 5–7 years of experience in industrial automation, machinery design, or manufacturing systems.
- Strong working knowledge of PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, B&R, etc.).
- Experience with electromechanical integration and automation control hardware.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent CAD tools.
- Comprehensive understanding of UL, CSA, CE, and NEC compliance standards.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional engineering team.
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
- Experience in a machine shop or fabrication environment (sheet metal, welding, turning, etc.) .
