A leading UK manufacturer at the forefront of energy-efficient power solutions is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its growing engineering team in Leeds.

The Role
The successful Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key leadership role within the mechanical engineering function, supporting the development of the team while driving high-quality design, innovation and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
* Mentoring and developing the mechanical engineering team
* Managing day-to-day departmental workload alongside the Lead Mechanical Engineer
* Overseeing mechanical designs, drawings and bills of materials (BOMs)
* Ensuring all designs meet BS/IEC standards and customer specifications
* Selecting components to meet electrical and mechanical performance requirements
* Preparing working designs, prototypes and supporting testing activity
* Collaborating with internal project teams and external customers
* Driving R&D and continuous improvement of existing and future products
* Providing technical input at contract start-up and producing technical documentation
* Managing resources, departmental targets and workflow processes
* Developing component libraries and delivering internal technical training
This is a hands-on senior role with genuine influence over product direction, engineering standards and team development.
About the Ideal Candidate
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
* Proven experience in mechanical design within an industrial/manufacturing environment
* Strong working knowledge of BS/IEC standards
* Proficient in 2D & 3D CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks or similar)
* Experienced in BOM creation and component selection
* Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills
* Confident managing multiple projects and deadlines
* Natural leader with strong communication and mentoring ability
