Job Summary:

The Senior Product Design Engineer is responsible for taking customer concepts and driving them through the entire product development lifecycle, from initial ideation to a fully realized and manufacturable product. This role requires a strong understanding of engineering principles, design methodologies, materials science, manufacturing processes, and project management. The Senior Design Engineer will collaborate closely with customers, sales, marketing, and manufacturing teams to ensure that the final product meets or exceeds customer expectations, is cost-effective, and can be produced efficiently. This individual will leverage their experience to provide technical guidance, mentorship, and innovative solutions throughout the design and development process. In addition, they are largely responsible for mentoring and training the engineering staff.

Essential Functions:

  1. Collaborate directly with internal and external customers to understand their needs, requirements, and vision for new products.
  2. Develop and present initial design concepts, prototypes, and proof-of-principles to customers and internal stakeholders.
  3. Lead the detailed design and engineering of new products, utilizing CAD software and other relevant engineering tools. Selecting appropriate material and performing necessary calculations and simulations to ensure all product requirements are met.
  4. Oversee the fabrication and assembly of prototypes, working closely with internal and external resources.
  5. Develop and execute comprehensive testing plans to validate design performance, functionality, and reliability against specifications.
  6. Develop and maintain design documentation, test reports, intellectual property records, manufacturing documentation, including assembly instructions, tooling requirements, and quality control procedures.
  7. Participate in process improvement initiatives and troubleshooting manufacturing issues and provide technical support to resolve production challenges.
  8. Present design concepts, progress updates, and technical findings to customers and internal stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in mechanical engineering, or similar disciplines.
  • 5 years of product design experience
