We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to be the strategic anchor for a functional team. You won't just be building models; you'll be a key influencer who translates ambiguous business challenges into powerful, end-to-end ML solutions. Your mission is to take ownership of the data science lifecycle, delivering automated and augmented decisions that create a quantifiable impact on the business.
Your day-to-day
- Drive Full-Cycle Solutions: You will spearhead high-impact modeling projects from the initial ambiguous question to the final deployed solution. This includes framing the business problem, designing rigorous experiments, and selecting evaluation criteria that directly connect to business value.
- Engineer the MLOps Backbone: Build and own the automated systems that keep our models sharp. You'll design and implement robust pipelines for model retraining, monitoring, and alerting, creating repeatable CI/CD processes that ensure service stability and performance.
- Elevate the Team: Act as a force multiplier for the team's talent. You'll actively mentor junior data scientists, lead knowledge-sharing sessions (like tech talks and paper reviews), and champion best practices that raise the bar for everyone.
- Influence Business Strategy: Be the voice of data for your partners. You will translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling insights for non-technical audiences, making recommendations that directly influence your functional team's priorities and decisions.
About you
- Relevant degree OR equivalent relevant experience and;
- Experience: 10-12 years of work experience in data science.
- Technical Mastery: Production-grade proficiency in Python and SQL and mastery of multiple data science libraries. You don't just write code; you write clean, scalable, and well-tested code, and are comfortable contributing to shared libraries.
- Scientific Rigor: A proven track record of designing robust experimental frameworks and validation strategies. You know how to methodically test hypotheses and build models you can stand behind.
- Business Acumen: The ability to see the business problem behind the data. You excel at turning vague challenges into well-defined data science projects with clear success metrics.
- A Mentorship Mindset: You're a natural teacher and collaborator who enjoys elevating others. You are a trusted partner who is sought out for your ability to solve problems and explain complex ideas with clarity.
Bonus points
- Advanced Credentials: PhD in a quantitative discipline or an actuarial designation (or progress toward one).
- Open-Source Contributions: Demonstrated track record of contributing to open-source projects or maintaining widely used analytical libraries.
Salary: $250,000 to $400,000*
*Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.
- Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 2PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
