Senior Controls Engineer in Phoenix

We are seeking a Sr. Advanced Electrical Engineer with strong experience in PLC programming, controls systems, and automated test environments. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing control systems from the ground up, troubleshooting complex electrical and mechanical systems, and working with PLC and test automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and test well-structured PLC programs for new and existing equipment.
  • Design and develop PLC software and controls architectures from scratch.
  • Define controls system requirements and develop detailed functional specifications.
  • Maintain and modify existing LabVIEW systems to support evolving customer requirements.
  • Lead implementation and testing of new control systems.
  • Troubleshoot PLC code, electrical systems, mechanical systems, sensors, and other control components.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Work closely with cross-functional engineering and technical teams to develop and implement solutions.
  • Support testing and validation using various test and measurement equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of PLC programming experience using multiple hardware platforms.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Emerson, or Phoenix Contact PLCs .
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and write PLC code from scratch.
  • Experience using an object-oriented approach with Function Blocks or Add-On Instructions.
  • Experience troubleshooting both electrical and mechanical control systems.
  • 6+ years of experience with LabVIEW, VeriStand, Python, and .NET.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Must be a US due to contractual requirements.

Qualifications

  • Experience with Git or Teamcenter.
  • Experience with SQL and database development.
  • Experience with automated test systems and data acquisition.
  • Familiarity with DAQs, sensors, oscilloscopes, multimeters, pressure scanners, DEWEsoft, and similar test equipment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience providing technical leadership or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Strong focus on safety, data quality, and delivering reliable technical solutions.
