RFA Engineering (www.rfamec.com) is an engineering service provider dedicated to delivering our clients with timely engineering support and expertise. We are seeking an experienced candidate to become an integral part of our engineering team. The selected candidate will work with an experienced engineering staff using state-of-the-art engineering tools & processes. This position will operate onsite at our customer's world-class engineering and manufacturing facility near Cleveland, OH.

Senior Controls Engineer

The Senior Controls Engineer will lead automation and electrical control system projects across multiple manufacturing facilities. This role involves designing, programming, and integrating complex control systems while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and productivity standards. You will serve as a technical expert, mentor junior engineers, and manage vendor and contractor activities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, programming, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and VFD systems (Rockwell, Siemens, Beijer).
  • Maintain and improve LabVIEW applications for test and production equipment.
  • Apply NEC and NFPA standards to plan and document industrial electrical installations.
  • Provide cost estimates, project schedules, and technical evaluations for capital projects.
  • Oversee contractors to ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Integrate equipment into plant data collection systems and maintain network documentation.
  • Support network backups, device patching, and control system asset tracking.
  • Mentor and train junior engineers and technicians.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of industrial controls engineering experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and multiple automation platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of NFPA 70, 70E, 79, and applicable industrial standards.
  • Experience integrating automation equipment with data collection and networking systems.

Pay Range: $100,000-$150,000 – Commensurate with experience
