Senior Consultant: Building Energy and Cost Modeling
Job DescriptionJob DescriptionSalary: $130,000 - $166,000, depending on experience. Significant bonus based on billable hours is possible, as well.
2050 Partners is seeking a mission-driven Senior Consultant to join our team in a fully remote role. In this role, you will directly contribute to the execution and management of decarbonization consulting projects that contribute to the development of future GHG-reducing building codes and appliance standards. Initial assignments will include the following project areas:
- Building energy modeling to assess energy savings and operational characteristics of market transformation initiatives (MTIs) and emerging technologies, in support of the California Market Transformation Administrator (MTA) program
- Building energy modeling and cost effectiveness analysis of code change proposals for building energy codes, including the California Energy Code
- Technical analysis in support of federal product and equipment standards, state and building codes, and state utility programs.
Responsibilities include:
- Be a trusted advisor for our clients by providing pragmatic advice based on defensible data and analysis
- Perform building energy modeling and cost modeling across a range of projects
- Ensure a consistent and data-driven approach to determining energy savings and cost-effectiveness estimates
- Contribute to multiple projects including building energy modeling, cost modeling, client engagement, subcontractor management, and external stakeholder engagement
- Ensure high-quality deliverables, including reports and presentations.
Required Qualifications and Competencies:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or technical field(s) is required; bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or building science is ; higher degrees such as masters or Ph.D. can substitute for up to 2 years of relevant experience
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Demonstrated significant experience with EnergyPlus, CBECC, DOE-2, DOE-2.2R, or other energy modeling software and engineering simulations
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python, R, or similar
- Consulting mindset: comfort contributing to complex projects with a problem-solving that prioritizes client needs

Desired Experience:
- Experience with appliance efficiency standards (including Title 20)
- Experience with model codes and state/local building energy codes (e.g., ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, the California Energy Code, reach codes)
- Experience working in the California energy efficiency program and policy environment, including familiarity with CEDARS, California Policy Manual, DEER and CalTF eTRM workpapers, California Cost-effectiveness Tool (CET), and California Avoided Cost Calculators
- Experience with market-based initiatives such as incentive and market transformation programs, voluntary labeling, or building benchmarking.
