Senior Associate, Investment Operations (Energy Transition)

AB CarVal’s Energy Transition business invests via debt and equity across power and utility projects, resilient energy networks, clean transportation, and resource waste management transactions. This role offers a dynamic opportunity spanning hedge fund and private equity transactions in the clean energy sector. The Senior Associate will partner with the front office commercial team and support the full lifecycle of clean energy transactions. They will be exposed to all features of AB CarVal’s Clean Energy business, responsible for various aspects of new and existing transactions, and will work closely with internal and external parties.
Principal Accountabilities:
Operational Management – 60%
Provide day-to-day operational input on clean energy investment transactions.
Evaluate complex situations quickly and propose solutions using good judgement.
Interpret detailed legal documents related to clean energy investments.
Update financial models monthly; produce and book discounted cash flow valuations and IRRs.
Manage bespoke complex financing agreements, including oversight of monthly construction draws.
Review and book fundings and distributions on clean energy investments.
Set up new deal structures and manage existing ones.
Complete due diligence and audit requests in collaboration with relevant partners.
Track all aspects of clean energy transactions within AB CarVal’s systems.
Respond to internal and external queries regarding transactions throughout their lifecycle.
Business Partnering – 40%
Collaborate with the AB CarVal clean energy commercial team and external partners.
Contribute to transaction documentation alongside the commercial team.
Make operational decisions impacting the business.
Anticipate potential issues in transactions and communicate solutions proactively.
Assist with collateral management and project review/milestoning within energy transition investments.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
3+ years of accounting/finance experience.
Advanced Excel skills including data modeling and analysis.
Knowledge of lending instruments, legal documents, and structures.
Strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.
Ability to manage multiple assignments with accuracy and quality.
Self-starter with follow-through ability.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Results-driven with attention to detail and practicality.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Enjoys collaborative team work, partnering with the commercial team.
Willingness to travel for business.

Experience with renewable energy investments and transactions.
Background in alternative investment fund management or similar industry.
Experience in public accounting or financial services.
Proven initiative in communicating issues across multiple levels.
Experience in conducting audits and due diligence of external companies.
Salary Range: $85,000 to $125,000 annually. Actual compensation varies based on education, experience, performance, and other factors. Benefits include health coverage, wellness programs, life and insurance, retirement plans, paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation.
