About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Accountant (Temp-to-Hire) with strong full-cycle accounting experience, exceptional initiative, and sound judgment. This is not a passive or task-driven role we are looking for someone who owns the work, takes initiative, asks critical questions, and proactively finds solutions.
Youll work directly with the Controller and executive team to build internal processes and systems, while taking over work currently handled by external agencies. The ideal candidate is closer to manager level, but content staying hands-on and involved. A successful temp period will result in a full-time offer.
During the 1-month probationary period, the selected candidate will be employed by Horizon Advisors and assigned to work with our client. Working hours during this time may be less than 40 hours per week, depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle accounting: month-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, AP/AR, fixed assets, and inventory.
- Prepare and review financial statements; identify anomalies and propose corrections.
- Take over key tasks from third parties and own them internally.
- Collaborate with the Controller and other team members to refine accounting processes.
- Ask critical questions challenge unclear instructions or assumptions respectfully.
- Recalculate figures (e.g., interest, royalties) based on updated directives, not just legacy templates.
- Identify risks, solve problems before they escalate, and take accountability for outcomes.
- Be on-site 3x per week to engage with operational teams and leadership.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with experience owning accounting processes end-to-end
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and GAAP; CPA or pursuit of CPA is a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems and inventory accounting .
- High degree of autonomy, initiative, and professional judgment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to challenge, explain, and problem-solve.
- Based in the Los Angeles area and able to be on-site 3x per week.
About the Hiring Process
This is a temp-to-hire opportunity, starting with a 1-month probation period. During this time, the candidate will be employed by Horizon Advisors and evaluated on performance and team fit. If successful, a full-time offer may be extended directly by the client company.
