Position Summary
The Security Systems Engineer is responsible for managing, maintaining, and advancing the organization’s enterprise physical security systems, including LenelS2 OnGuard access control, Milestone XProtect video management, and Axis camera networks. This role operates in a hybrid capacity, working onsite 2–3 days per week alongside the Security Operations Center (SOC) team and remotely with IT and engineering staff. The position ensures security hardware and software function reliably, securely, and in compliance with organizational standards. Responsibilities include system integration, troubleshooting, user support, project execution, and technical documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities

Administer and maintain LenelS2 OnGuard access control systems, including user accounts, permissions, doors, and policies.

Operate and manage Milestone XProtect video management platform; maintain and monitor IP camera networks.

Configure, install, and maintain Axis camera systems and video analytics solutions.

Integrate security systems with IT infrastructure (e.g., VLANs, firewalls, PoE, APIs).

Troubleshoot hardware and software issues; perform routine maintenance, updates, and upgrades.

Provide user support, including onboarding, training, documentation, and issue resolution.

Lead or participate in security system upgrades, expansions, and related projects.

Support day-to-day operations of the SOC, including participation in emergency response and after-hours support when needed.

Maintain system documentation, policies, and standard operating procedures.

Collaborate with IT, facilities, and security leadership to align system solutions with organizational requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not initially include direct supervisory responsibilities.

May mentor junior technical staff or contractors.

May oversee external vendors and contractors during system projects.
Required Education, Certifications, and Experience
-
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field; or equivalent experience.

3–5 years of IT engineering experience, with focus on Windows Server administration, networking, and databases.

Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, system integration, and troubleshooting.

Experience with physical security systems such as access control, video management, and cameras.

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in team environments.

Strong customer service in user support and stakeholder interaction.
Qualifications

Certifications: CompTIA Security+, Network+, or similar.

Prior experience with enterprise-level security systems (LenelS2, Milestone, Axis).

Project management experience.

Familiarity with industry standards and best practices (e.g., NIST, ISO, local codes).

Experience with AI/video analytics, motion/object detection, and advanced IP camera features.
Technical Skills / Proficiencies

Windows Server administration; virtualization platforms.

Network configuration, including VLANs, firewalls, PoE, routing, and switching.

Systems integration and APIs for connecting access control/video systems with IT tools.

Hardware installation and configuration (cameras, door controllers, sensors).

Familiarity with video storage systems and analytics.
Work Environment

Hybrid schedule: approximately 2–3 days onsite at the Security Operations Center; remainder remote.

Occasional after-hours or on-call support required (emergencies, maintenance windows).

Physical demands may include installation tasks, ladder use, and handling technical equipment.
