The Role

An exciting career opportunity has arisen for a Sales & Operations Planning Director to join our highly successful global company based in Farnborough.

The talented individual we are seeking will lead and manage the Division’s sales and operations planning process to ensure alignment of all functions to delivery on business objectives both medium and long term across the Technologies Group. This includes daily interaction with procurement, operations, and sales teams to understand supply and demand dynamics within a medium and long term to satisfy business targets.

The S&OP Director will be required to build processes and tools to consider historical, firm and forecasted demand, relative to supply of material and production capacity and capabilities to ensure we fulfil customer expectations.

As the S&OP leader, you will be expected to be the subject matter expert for demand planning, network optimization, and capacity planning while supporting various projects including monthly demand plans, consumption models, network and production strategy optimization, integration of new businesses, and new product launches.

You will also facilitate each S&OP meeting to ensure the team is focused on the business plan and may also need to lead technical initiatives within global ERPs to improve planning process capabilities.

This is a full-time role based in Farnborough and belongs to the Technologies Group (Europe, Asia & North America), reporting to the VP of Ops Excellence & Strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of the Sales and Operations Planning Director include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish the Global S&OP function across the Technologies organization.
  • Create process and leverage tools/software to enable S&OP globally.
  • Facilitate monthly demand forecast aggregation, including consensus between functions and stakeholders.
  • Assist in analysing external demand profiles to be translated into MRP (SAP) system to accurately drive material supply for production requirements.
  • Assist with the coordination, facilitation, and documentation of regularly scheduled planning meetings.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) of forecast accuracy from both a demand and supply side.
  • Populate demand forecast in ERPs based on the product mix and provided accurate commitment dates to customer service team across multiple product lines.
  • Identify current planned level of demand and create tactical production plans to meet the identified customer demand.
  • Assist in the assessment and communication of commercial lead times based on internal operational structure to enable end market lead time expectations.
  • Assist production teams on establishing measures to monitor and adjust capacity to execute flexible manufacturing schedules.
  • Work with global plant leaders and value stream planners to ensure adequate translation of long-term plan into short term plan.
  • Continually review material management, forecasting and procurement processes to drive efficiency and cost improvements.

The Person

The key skills and qualities of the Sales & Operations Planning Director are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business.
  • MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years’ experience in material management, procurement and/or scheduling with extensive demonstrated success of implementing and operationalizing complex master schedules across value streams.
  • Must be able to analyse planning and purchasing requirements for electronic and/or mechanical applications.
  • CIPS certification (ideally MCIPS or studying towards) is desirable.
  • Lean or Green Belt Six Sigma certification a plus
  • Fluent in English
  • Fluent in French preferred but not essential
  • Strategic thinker, strong analytical skills, able to synthesize considerable and complex data.
  • Various ERP and MS Excel spreadsheet expertise in managing procurement and planning analytics.
  • Solid, proven organizational, project management and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal/written communication skills; can effectively interact with all levels of management.
  • Strong PC skills (Excel, PP, Word, Access, Power BI/Tableau)
  • Demonstrated ability to influence teams and programs regarding quality, productivity and/or customer service.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with limited direction.
  • Solid working knowledge of MRP with working knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • Technical background in electronics is preferred.
  • Overall understanding of a manufacturing company’s operations.
