Job Summary: Cannon Construction is hiring a Safety Specialist to champion a strong safety culture across powerline, fiber, and utility projects. If you're passionate about protecting people, driving compliance, and making an impact on essential infrastructure - we want to hear from you.
Cannon Construction is a leading contractor in communications and power infrastructure, delivering safe, reliable, and efficient solutions across fiber-optic, power, and utility projects.
We're looking for an experienced Safety Specialist to support field operations and promote a strong safety culture across multiple job sites.
Technology Skills:
The ideal candidate is proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and experienced in Teams or similar collaboration platforms for meetings, training, and document sharing. They can efficiently complete and submit reports through SharePoint, OneDrive, or comparable systems, and are comfortable working with digital inspection tools, cloud-based safety platforms, and mobile data collection apps such as SiteDocs, iAuditor, or Procore. Strong written communication skills are essential for clear, professional documentation and email correspondence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct jobsite safety inspections for powerline, underground, and communications work
- Lead toolbox talks, orientations, and safety trainings
- Develop and review Job Hazard and Activity Hazard Analyses (JHAs/AHAs)
- Monitor OSHA, DOT, and EM 385-1-1 compliance
- Investigate and document incidents and near misses
- Partner with project teams to drive safety improvements
- Document and communicate inspection findings through Microsoft Forms, Word, or Excel reports, and email distributions
- Serve as a safety resource during preconstruction planning, energization activities, and confined space or high-voltage work.
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of construction safety experience (powerline, fiber, or utility )
- Knowledge of OSHA 1910/1926 and EM 385-1-1
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel
- : OSHA 30, CHST/STS/CSP, CPR/First Aid, bilingual (English/Spanish)
