Safety Operations Coordinator (Field)

Located in Calgary & Leduc with projects throughout Western Canada, we are a leader in the industry for turn-key new construction, maintenance and prefabrication. This position is based out of our Leduc office and is responsible for supervising all safety services, safety personnel and leading the company to safety culture on all field sites as well as the Leduc location. The successful candidate will be located in the Leduc area with regular overnight visits to our many job sites in Alberta and B.C. Work weeks will be based on 8-hour office days and 10-hour field days. Position Summary : Build and maintain successful relationships with Alstar's leaders and clients. Ensuring compliance and alignment with the Alstar SMS (Safety Management System) consistently at all Alstar Field locations, without allowing picking and choosing from the SMS.   Ensuring compliance and accountability of Alstar and its subcontractors, in complying with the SMS.  Training, mentoring and supervising Field CSOs to have them deliver results for assigned tasks consistently in a professional manner and without them defaulting to changing the SMS.  Meet the expectations of Alstar and achieve the required outcomes. Improvement of the SMS by leading, suggesting and taking on improvement projects. Follow, achieve and deliver HSE’s SEPCON (Strategic Execution Plan + Conduct), HSE Goals and Performance Objectives for self and direct reports.  Build Alstar frontline leaders to improve compliance and adoption of the SMS.  Adopt and lead Alstar initiatives to build a safe work environment for all.  Frequent travel to, and work at field sites is required (70% Field, 30% Office). Travel to other office/shop locations for training, meetings and when required Position-Specific Accountabilities: Lead the Field and Leduc locations to a strong safety culture SMS compliance/accountability: ensure SMS is being complied with at all field locations and deal with any non-compliance issues immediately CSO Management (Hiring/firing, training/mentoring, building, competency assessment, shift scheduling, assigning work with deadlines, performance management, accountability) Field JHSC Management Supervisor Audits Management for Alstar Field Leaders Frequent Site visits (70% of the time) Regular Client Site Team interfacing/interaction. Attend Client progress meetings (progress report updates), stand downs, quarterly/yearly client meetings Field Safety Action Log Management Build, update and manage HSE Plans (Safety Management Plan/Project Specific Safety Plan, Pre-Project Hazard Assessment, ERPs) for bids and awarded jobs Conduct Safety Meetings when required Leadership Training Program (LTP) ownership Alstar Driver Training Alstar Fall Protection Practical training Alstar Overhead Crane training Incident Management (Investigation, incident tracking sheet updates + all related activities) Case Management for Field incidents. Lead/Conduct/Supervise/Facilitate COR Internal/External Audits Supervise ISN RAVS updates/uploads SMS Management (Supervise Safety Manual updates, JSA/SWP Development etc), SME (Subject Matter Expert) Manage and facilitate Client Audits/Assessments Field Incident Cost Management (Case Management Tracking) Regulatory authorities interfacing (WCB, OHS, WorkSafeBC) Manage Safety Recognition Programs implementation in Field Field related Alstar internal meetings Know and lead Client HSE Standards, Requirements & Expectations from Alstar. Ensure Alstar is in Compliance. Be the Client specific specialist Deal with items identified in the Control log by their direct reports. Alstar Field Subcontractors (Third Party) Accountability + compliance with SMS Perform Field CSO duties when required Cover for SOC(Shop) during their days off/holidays/vacations Lead Alstar HSE related initiatives such as: Journey to Culture ERP Drills management at Field sites HSE Projects as required Requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal, organizational and critical thinking skills Keen attention to detail Quick learner, resilient, problem solver and able to deal with time pressures Ability to follow instructions, directions and take on challenging tasks Be a team player with ability to foster positive relationships within the organization and with clients Take ownership of the assigned role and work with minimal supervision to deliver results Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks based on priorities Able to work on weekends and holidays to support the team when required Able to drive to different field sites in AB, BC & SK on weekdays, weekends, holidays when required.
