Safety Officer

Job Summary:

The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety regulations and promoting a culture of safety within the organization. This role involves conducting risk assessments, developing safety toolbox presentations, developing safety policies, governmental OSHA reporting, and providing training to employees on best practices in health and safety. The Safety Officer will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe work environment and minimizing workplace hazards. 

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify potential hazards.
  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures. 
  • Provide safety training and education to employees. 
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine their causes(root cause analysis) and prevent recurrence. 
  • Conducting risk assessments and recommend corrective actions to prevent future incidents. 
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local safety regulations. 
  • Maintain records and documentation related to safety activities. 
  • Coordinate with other departments to address safety concerns. 
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure safety standards are met. 
  • Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when necessary. 
  • Prepare and present safety reports to management. 
  • Prepare and file Employer Report of Injury Reports, OSHA 300 Reports, and other compliance reports to governmental agencies. 
  • Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment(PPE).
  • Lead Safety Toolbox meeting and initiatives. 
  • Assist in developing emergency response plans. 
  • Supporting the development of OSHA and company policies and programs. 
  • Initiate and organize safety training of personnel and record safety training. 
  • Record and report all workplace injuries and/or illnesses to the HR Manager and Plant Manager. 
  • Conduct weekly Safety Toolbox Meetings with personnel and record all meetings. 
  • Drafts and implements internal safety standards and policies that align with industry best practices. 
  • Provide training development for employees on safety protocols, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety through effective communication and training initiatives. 
  • Fabricate or modify equipment as necessary to enhance workplace safety. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards, workers' compensation laws and EPA standards. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficient in report writing with the ability to communicate findings clearly and effectively. 
  • Ability to conduct training and presentations. 
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proven experience in an EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) role or similar position.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to perform root cause analysis effectively. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with all levels of staff. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently. 
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR is ; additional safety certifications are a plus. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Excellent organization of clerical procedures and systems such as recordkeeping and filing. 
  • Ability to work independently. 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar certification. 
  • 2+ years of experience in a safety-related role.
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience. 
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent Analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience with safety management systems. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Proficient in conducting safety training sessions. 
  • Knowledge of safety inspections and auditing techniques. 
  • Basic understanding of first aid and emergency response procedures. 
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
