Safety Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Safety Engineer to join the Loss Prevention organization (LP), which is the corporate safety organization within a leading company in Oil & Energy in Saudi Arabia. We provide both day-to-day in-field occupational and process safety support to the company's operations, as well as centralized technical support and consulting function. Our field offices are located in Abqaiq, Riyadh, Ras Tanura, Dhahran, Udhailiyah, Jeddah (including Yanbu and Jazan), and Tanajib. Through these offices, LP provides its services to all the company's facilities and departments that are located throughout the Kingdom.

Your primary role as a Safety Engineer (Loss Prevention Engineer) is to provide daily support to company facilities and departments, helping them effectively implement the the company's Safety Management System (Occupational & Process Safety) expectations and associated programs, as well as assuring compliance to all company safety requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, you will have the requisite knowledge, skills, and experience to:

Facilitate implementation of the the company's Safety Management System, as well as its objectives and expectations, including developing associated safety processes, and participating in self-assessments.

Conduct field inspections/reviews to assess compliance to company and international codes and standards, identify safety concerns, formulate solutions, and develop practical and cost-effective corrective actions.

Identify, evaluate, recommend actions, and follow up on critical, yet universal safety tasks and control methodologies related to operational safety practices (e.g., work at height, isolation/LOTO, permit to work, hydrogen sulfide, confined space entry, excavations).

Participate in safety studies/activities using risk assessment and mitigation methodologies, such as: PHAs, HAZOPs, JSAs, incident investigations, compliance reviews, or insurance surveys.

Respond to emergency situations and incidents, either during or after regular working hours, to provide technical assistance and advice.

Participate in worksite contractor safety management activities (e.g., contractor selection and prequalification, monitoring of work site compliance, and measurement of performance).

Support the reporting, classification and investigation all incidents, and participating in incident investigations, determination of root causes, and proper recommendations to prevent recurrence.

Deliver Loss Prevention-specific training to employees, contractors, and outside parties.

Mentor other Loss Prevention personnel.

  • Short-term : In the event you are unable to work due to illness or injury, short-term income benefits are provided. The benefit is 30 days full pay and 60 days at three-quarters pay, in any one year period.

  • Death Benefit: The company pays an ex-gratia death benefit equal to 24 months base pay if death is from an industrial accident and 12 months base pay if death is non-industrial related.

Minimum Requirements

As the successful candidate, you will hold a Bachelor degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology from an Accredited Institution, and seven years of experience as a safety professional in the oil and gas, petrochemicals, or related industries, including a strong track record in delivering results. The experience should be comprehensive, covering both occupational and process safety.

You will have an excellent ability to communicate in English with peers as well as members of management, and be able to produce clear and concise oral and written reports in English.
