Job Purpose
The Corporate Safety Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive safety programs and policies across all construction projects within the company. This role ensures compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. The Corporate Safety Director collaborates with project managers, site supervisors, and other key stakeholders to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards, promote best practices, and drive overall safety performance.
What You'll Do
- Develop and implement strategic safety plans and policies aligned with company goals and industry best practices.
- Regularly review and update safety policies to reflect changes in regulations, technology, and project requirements.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to integrate safety initiatives into overall business strategies.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including Cal/OSHA standards and requirements.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes and proactively implement necessary adjustments to ensure compliance.
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire , specialized training for high-risk activities, and ongoing refresher courses.
- Coordinate with external training providers as needed to supplement in-house programs.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments for construction projects, identifying potential hazards and implementing appropriate controls to mitigate risks.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop site-specific safety plans and ensure their effective implementation.
- Provide guidance on the selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety equipment.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents and near misses, conducting thorough root cause analyses to identify underlying factors and prevent recurrence.
- Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions based on investigation findings.
- Oversee the company's workmen's compensation program, including the administration of claims, reporting requirements, and coordination with insurance providers.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to direct reports within the safety department, fostering a high-performance culture and promoting professional development
What You'll Bring
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing safety initiatives across multiple construction projects or within a large construction organization.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively in a construction context.
- Experience in conducting thorough risk assessments, hazard analyses, and incident investigations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Experience in developing and delivering safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire , specialized training for high-risk activities, and ongoing refresher courses.
- Proven ability to effectively manage workmen's compensation claims and collaborate with insurance providers and legal counsel for resolution.
- Previous experience in vendor and contractor safety management, including evaluation, selection, and monitoring of safety performance.
- Familiarity with safety management software and tools for data analysis and reporting is advantageous.
- Experience in providing leadership, mentorship, and performance management to a team of safety professionals.
- Skill in collaborating with cross-functional teams to address safety-related challenges and opportunities.
- Knowledge of emergency response procedures and the ability to develop and implement emergency response plans for construction sites.
- Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to address safety-related disputes and issues in a diplomatic and constructive manner.
- Commitment to continuous improvement, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for enhancing safety processes and procedures.
- Ability to remain calm and composed during crisis situations, making timely and effective decisions to ensure the safety of personnel and property.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding sensitive safety-related information, including incident reports, investigations, and personnel matters. Demonstrated discretion in handling confidential data and adherence to privacy regulations and company policies.
