Safety Coordinator
Position Summary
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing site-specific safety programs to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role promotes a proactive safety culture, minimizes risk, and supports safe work practices across all project operations. A Safety Coordinator may be assigned to a project at times and shall maintain all required certifications, including OSHA 30-hour training, and be responsible for enforcing the Site-Specific Safety Plan and all applicable OSHA regulations.
Job Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs)
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and company policies
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and hazard assessments
- Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety training, including for new hire onboarding as appropriate
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; prepare reports and corrective actions
- Coordinate with project management, subcontractors, and clients on safety expectations
- Maintain safety documentation, logs, permits, and compliance records
- Monitor high-risk activities (e.g., lifting operations, confined space, hot work, energized work)
- Enforce use of PPE and safe work practices
Job Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- 2-5 years of construction safety experience
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1926 & 1910)
- Experience with Site-Specific Safety Plans and hazard mitigation
- Ability to lead safety meetings and enforce compliance in the field
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Active driver’s license in good standing
Required Safety Certifications:
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- Current First Aid / CPR / AED Certification
- Fall Protection Competent Person Training
Highly Certifications:
- OSHA 500 (Trainer Course) or OSHA 510 (Standards Course)
- MEWP Training
- Hazard Communication (HazCom / GHS) Training
- Confined Space Competent Person Training
- Trenching Excavation Competent Person Training
- Scaffold Competent Person Training
- Crane Signal Person / Rigger Certification
- NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety / Arc Flash) Training
