Now Hiring: Safety Coordinator
Location: Ashland, OR | Department: Safety | Status: Full-Time, Year-Round | Non-Exempt

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Safety Coordinator to support the health, safety, and security of our company and campus.

The Role You’ll Play

As Safety Coordinator, you’ll assist in managing OSF’s safety programs across regulatory compliance, infectious disease prevention, wildfire smoke response, workers’ compensation, training, and more. You’ll work directly with the Safety Manager and cross-departmental teams to ensure our company members and audiences are safe and supported.

What You’ll Do

  • Support safety programs covering compliance, workers’ compensation, wildfire smoke, infectious disease, and emergency response.
  • Coordinate safety reports, inspections, and incident documentation.
  • Assist with workers’ compensation insurance, including claim submission and facilitation.
  • Conduct research and cost-benefit analyses to guide purchasing decisions.
  • Monitor and maintain safety equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Prepare and process invoices, reimbursements, and documentation for the Safety Manager.
  • Contribute to safety trainings, education programs, and company-wide communications.
  • Serve as a representative of the Safety Department in meetings and presentations.
  • Support campus security and emergency procedures as needed.

You’ll Thrive in This Position If You…

  • Have at least an Associate’s degree and 2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent).
  • Excel at organization, attention to detail, and managing multiple systems at once.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully, including in training or presentation settings.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and comfortable with cloud-based systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in sensitive situations.
  • Can adapt to a schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and occasional adjustments on short notice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Emergency Management, or related fields—or 4 years of equivalent work experience.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ICC, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with unionized workforces, especially in performing arts settings (AEA, IATSE, SDC).
  • Industry certifications in safety, health, or emergency response.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to access all areas of OSF’s campus, including stairs, ladders, and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (20 lbs overhead) and perform physical tasks such as crouching, stooping, or crawling.
  • Comfort working in varied environments, including outdoor conditions.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) was founded in 1935 in Ashland, OR, and has grown from a three-day festival of two plays to a nationally renowned theatre arts organization that presents a rotating repertory season of up to 10 plays and musicals, including illuminating interpretations of Shakespeare, other enduring classics, and new works. OSF productions have been presented on Broadway, internationally, and at regional, community, and high school theatres across the country. OSF received the 1983 Special Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre and is one of the largest nonprofit theatres in the nation with three stages, including an outdoor Allen Elizabethan Theatre.

Hourly Rate: $28.85 - $32.96
