POSITION TITLE: Safety Coordinator, Second Shift

REPORTS TO: Safety Manager
LOCATION: Canonsburg, PA
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Work with Health and Safety (HS) Supervisor and plant team leaders (Supervisors, Lead Techs and Union Safety Representatives), to help drive progress with company-wide safety initiatives as well as policies, procedures, and program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist with new hire safety .
- Assist with HS training development.
- Conducting audits of HS programs and plant inspections.
- Assist Safety Risk Assessments (SRAs) for various machinery and tasks throughout the facility Inspects facilities, machinery, and equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and health regulation compliance.
- Participate and recommend improvements for the facility as necessary.
- Provides expert guidance on best practices for identifying and reducing exposure to dangerous conditions.
- Hands-on safety problem-solving and risk mitigation.
- Strong presence on the plant floor. Tours the facility and communicates with workers to identify safety risks and concerns.
- Adopt a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to employees via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings.
- Assist with incident investigations and follow-up with required corrective action.
- Input near-hit data and injury data.
- Assist in incident investigations and 5-Why Analysis track corrective actions to completion.
- Maintains knowledge of hazard prevention and safety best practices, equipment, and developments.
- All other duties as assigned.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS-Relationships are generally intra-organizational, interacting with supervisors and personnel. Creating the interface between departments allowing for the coordination and execution of production requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to identify unsafe situations or potentially unsafe situations.
- Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and health and safety laws.
- Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written)
- Troubleshooting capability required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in safety engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field required.
- Or equivalent five years of experience as a Safety Engineer.
- At least two years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
- Previous work in a manufacturing environment .
- Certified Safety Professional status .
PHYSICAL JOB DEMANDS
Ability to lift 60 lbs., work in extreme hot and cold weather, must stand for long periods of time, will be exposed to loud noise levels, operate hand and power tools for long periods of time. Work in an environment with dirt, grease, and dust. Manual dexterity to operate specialized equipment. Ability to hear telephone conversations and speak clearly. May need a high level of concentration in a busy area.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Monday through Friday and on-call is required. Shift, weekend, and overtime as required.
