Position Summary:

The Risk Management and Compliance Manager serves as a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing comprehensive operational functions while ensuring regulatory compliance across all business activities. This position combines strategic operational oversight with hands-on management of compliance initiatives, audit functions, and commercial property operations. The Manager will lead cross-functional teams, manage complex operational processes, and maintain the highest standards of legal and regulatory compliance within the real estate and property management industry. This role requires a dynamic leader with exceptional organizational skills, deep industry knowledge, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments while driving operational excellence.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

Compliance and Legal Oversight

  • Track and monitor all incoming legal documentation
  • Coordinate with legal counsel on litigation matters, contracts, and regulatory issues
  • Maintain compliance documentation and ensure audit readiness
  • Oversee regulatory reporting requirements and filing deadlines

Insurance and Risk Management

  • Oversee comprehensive insurance tracking and management programs
  • Coordinate with insurance carriers, brokers, and risk management consultants

Audit Department Supervision

  • Direct and manage internal audit department
  • Develop audit schedules, protocols, and compliance checklists
  • Implement audit recommendations and corrective action plans
  • Maintain audit documentation and reporting systems

Strategic Support and Executive Functions

  • Provide strategic support to executive leadership team
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and coordinate executive meetings and prepare agendas
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with absolute discretion
  • Serve as primary liaison between executives and internal/external vendors, team members, and commercial tenants
  • Track and compile property performance reports for executive review
  • Monitor and follow up on action items from executive meetings
  • Manage company Policy, Procedures, and Forms

Position Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Legal Studies, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in operations management, preferably in real estate or property management
  • Previous supervisory and leadership experience required

Technical Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience with property management software (Entrata, AppFolio, Yardi, or similar)
  • Knowledge of compliance tracking systems and audit software
  • Proficiency in database management and reporting tools
  • Experience with document management systems

Specialized Knowledge

  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local housing regulations
  • Knowledge of commercial and residential lease law
  • Familiarity with audit procedures and internal controls

Physical Requirements

  • Physical requirements include extended computer work, property inspections, and general office mobility
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and general mobility (walking, standing, climbing stairs)

Required Experience:

  • 5+ yrs of Real estate or property management industry experience
  • 2-3 years of supervisory/leadership experience
  • Experience with legal document tracking and compliance
  • Previous executive assistant or executive support experience


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage internal audit department
  • Direct and manage front office staff
