GENERAL SUMMARY
Serves as a Risk & Compliance Manager in the Credit Union administrative setting. The primary responsibility is to provide excellent service by demonstrating the principals of SouthPoint Financial Credit Union and adhering to the vision of “Empowering People to Enhance Lives”. The Risk & Compliance Manager leads the credit union’s risk management and regulatory compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. This role proactively identifies, assesses, and mitigates risks while fostering a strong culture of compliance across the organization. Key responsibilities include oversight of enterprise risk management, vendor management, fraud prevention, compliance oversight, and business continuity planning. The position also prepares and delivers risk and compliance reports to senior leadership and the Board, supporting informed decision-making and safeguarding the credit union’s operational integrity and resilience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Direct and lead the Risk & Compliance department in developing, refining, and maintaining policies and procedures that strengthen the Credit Union’s risk and compliance framework. Ensure these policies are effectively implemented across all business units and foster organization-wide adoption to support regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation.
- Lead the development and ongoing management of the Credit Union’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program, ensuring it effectively identifies, evaluates, and mitigates risks while supporting strategic priorities and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee the Credit Union’s compliance program to ensure adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including BSA/AML requirements, by providing guidance, monitoring effectiveness, and promoting a strong culture of compliance across the organization
- Serve as the Security Officer, ensuring physical security measures are in place and effective to protect the Credit Union and member information.
- Provide oversight and guidance for the Credit Union’s fraud prevention and detection program, ensuring it remains effective, compliant, and adaptable to evolving fraud trends and regulatory expectations.
- Own and manage the Credit Union’s vendor management program, ensuring it is comprehensive, compliant, and effective in minimizing third-party risk through robust due diligence, monitoring, and governance practices. Collaborate with vendor owners in ensuring updated & current records.
- Own and maintain the Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity Programs to ensure alignment & readiness through regular testing and updates.
- Oversee record retention policies and ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational requirements.
- Prepare and present risk and compliance reports to Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
- Collaborate with department leaders to identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks.
- Stay current on regulatory changes and industry best practices, recommending updates to policies and procedures as needed.
- Responsible for establishing individual employee goals and department goals and tracking and monitoring those goals as they relate to the overall performance of the credit union.
- Report to management regularly the progress of projects and initiatives, along with suggested improvements or enhancements to current products, services or platforms used within the organization.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with credit union policies and applicable laws.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
- Attend meetings, conferences, seminars and training courses relating to work areas.
- Meet with Management to discuss strategies, needs and progress of projects.
- Abide by all Bank Secrecy Act responsibilities for this job role.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Requires professional, well-developed interpersonal skills necessary for communicating with members, employees, and vendors on Credit Union-related matters.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness.
- Able to work under pressure, to process multiple tasks concurrently with a high degree of accuracy, and able to interact and maintain a positive attitude under challenging circumstances.
- Ability to lead and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business or other related field of study or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in operations, retail operations, risk management or compliance of a credit union or financial institution, or related work experience required.
- Requires strong knowledge of credit union operations, regulatory compliance, policies, procedures, and risk management principles.
- Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to anticipate emerging risks, evaluate complex situations, and develop proactive solutions that align with organizational goals
- Advanced mathematical skills required (calculations and concepts involving decimals, percentages, fractions, etc.)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Sitting 90-95% and standing 5-10%.
- Working at a computer 95% of the day.
- Utilizing the phone 30 – 35%.
- Occasional lifting up to ten lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Works in a typical administrative setting with climate control and appropriate lighting.
