SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced R&D Scientist to join our dynamic, fast-paced team focused on driving innovation in the genomic diagnostics field. The R&D Scientist will play a critical role in addressing unmet needs by scouting emerging technologies, conducting literature reviews, performing clinical and market research, and generating, evaluating, and executing new ideas. The position also involves advancing and optimizing existing Next- Sequencing (NGS) and molecular diagnostic tests. The ideal candidate will independently lead research projects while collaborating with cross-functional teams, both within and outside the department, under general supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Required: Postgraduate degrees in biological sciences or related fields.
Experience:
- 5+ years of experience in industry or equivalent is . Candidates with under 5 years of experience may be considered for a Scientist II position.
Skills:
- Rapid learning ability across various scientific disciplines and technologies.
- In-depth understanding of Next- Sequencing (NGS) and Third- Sequencing (TGS), including library preparation, sequencing chemistry, and data analysis.
- Strong foundation in molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to PCR, qPCR, ddPCR, and Sanger sequencing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with NGS applications in transcriptomics and epigenetics is a plus.
- Commercial experience (in clinical, biotech, or pharmaceutical settings) involving molecular/NGS applications in diagnostic product R&D is a plus.
- Proficiency in command line interfaces, Python, and R is a plus.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify unmet needs in the field and propose innovative research initiatives through technology scouting, literature review, and clinical market research.
- Evaluate and document potential innovation ideas.
- Design and conduct pilot studies to initiate new research projects.
- Analyze, interpret, and report experimental results.
- Provide technical support to the assay development team.
- Adhere to the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
