Research & Development Manager

Based on-site, you will lead a skilled, multi-disciplinary team responsible for driving R&D innovation and delivering a pipeline of new product development. About the role:



As Research and Development Manager, you will oversee the planning, execution and delivery of all R&D activities, ensuring projects align with the business’s strategic goals. You will manage a team of engineers, scientists, and technical support staff, focusing on new product development, continuous improvement and the extension of legacy product lifecycles.

This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical involvement with people and project management.

 

Key responsibilities:



Lead and develop the R&D function in line with business strategy and co-operative values

Manage new product development from concept to launch, ensuring time, cost and performance targets are met

Oversee resource planning, budgeting and cross-functional collaboration for technical projects

Provide technical input in your area of expertise, supporting both innovation and product refinement

Contribute to long-term product strategy and innovation planning

Ensure products remain compliant, manufacturable and in line with industry standards 

About you:



Proven background in R&D or engineering leadership roles, ideally in a small to mid-sized technical or scientific business

Degree-qualified in a relevant technical discipline, with hands-on experience in product development

Confident managing multi-disciplinary teams and balancing multiple technical priorities

Excellent understanding of the full product development lifecycle and innovation strategy

Collaborative communicator with strong people and project management skills

Familiarity with scientific instrumentation, compliance and IP is advantageous
