We are seeking an experienced Food Scientist to lead innovation in product development and packaging improvement for our frozen food line. This role combines technical formulation expertise with a commitment to food safety and quality, contributing to the evolution of our products and processes. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in food science, baking, and regulatory knowledge to drive continuous improvement and successful product launches.
Location: Woodridge, IL, 60517Schedule: Monday-Friday - 8 am - 5 pmSalary: $80,000-$110,000
Duties:1) Product Development & Innovation
- Lead development of new frozen food products from concept through commercialization.
- Reformulate existing products to enhance quality, shelf life, or cost-efficiency.
- Conduct stability testing, produce test batches, and assist with scale-up for manufacturing.
- Research new technologies, ingredients, and trends to support innovation and improvement.
- Evaluate and source raw materials; identify cost-effective ingredient alternatives.

2) Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of formulas, samples, and ingredient specifications.
- Ensure compliance with USDA, FDA, cGMP, and internal food safety requirements.
- Oversee documentation such as SDS and ingredient COAs.
- Coordinate third-party lab testing for product verification.

3) Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Partner with operations and engineering teams to implement new equipment or processes.
- Share technical knowledge across departments to support training and process consistency.
- Support troubleshooting efforts related to product issues or manufacturing concerns.

4) Safety & Workplace Culture
- Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to all health and safety protocols.
- Lead by example in following GMP and workplace safety guidelines.
- Fulfill responsibilities outlined in the company’s safety program, including supporting safe behaviors among team members.
Requirements:- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in food science/product development.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in baking, pastry, or a similar culinary role.
- Deep understanding of food science principles and formulation, particularly with dough/pastry.
- Proficient in MS Office and electronic documentation systems.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of advanced math and analytical techniques.
- Familiarity with cGMP, FDA, and USDA food safety regulations.
- Ability to taste, smell, touch, and visually assess food materials and products.
- Capable of standing, walking, sitting, reaching, or stooping throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Must occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong visual acuity, including and depth perception.
