Reliability Maintenance Technician

The Reliability Maintenance Technician for Berner Food & Beverage ensures the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of production equipment and facility systems. This role emphasizes preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement to minimize downtime and support efficient, high-quality production compliance with food safety standards. This role is critical to maintaining high standards of equipment reliability, supporting production goals, and ensuring compliance with food safety and quality regulations for Berner Food & Beverage.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on plant equipment, including fillers, conveyors, packaging, processing, and automation systems, to ensure maximum uptime and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, utilizing diagnostic tools such as vibration meters and laser alignment systems
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) to identify and resolve equipment failures, reducing unplanned downtime.
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other departments within Berner, including production, operations, and other maintenance teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment modifications using a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Develop and revise maintenance procedures and schedules based on customer manufacturer recommendations and failure analysis.
  • Assist the Reliability Manager in managing critical spare part inventories and identifying equipment assets to ensure timely repairs and minimize production interruptions.
  • Support implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize equipment reliability and manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure all work complies with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, GMPs).
  • Train and mentor maintenance staff on best practices, new technologies, and safety procedures.
  • Participate in safety programs and maintain a clean, organized work environment

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a maintenance or reliability role within a fast-paced manufacturing environment, preferably food and beverage.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment.
  • Experience with the Maintenance of computer systems and maintenance documentation.
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Certifications in reliability or maintenance technologies (e.g., Vibration Analysis, Ultrasonic or Infrared Analysis) are a plus.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work extended hours as needed.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficient in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems maintenance
  • Strong analytical skills for root cause analysis and data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Competence in using diagnostic and calibration tools.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Working Conditions:

• Indoors

• Walking on wet and slippery floors

• Standing/Walking for 12 Hours

• 12-hour night shifts (2-2-every other weekend Schedule)


Pay Range: $26..00-34.00 -Hourly (based on experience); For the PM shift, there is a $2.00 Shift Differential for this position.

Berner Food & Beverage Hourly employees are eligible for health benefits on the 1st of the month after 60 days of employment.
