Terrestrial Energy is developing for near-term commercial operation, a zero-emissions cogeneration plant for a global industry using its proprietary Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) fission technology in an innovative, small and modular plant design.

In pursuit of this objective, Terrestrial Energy initiated a transaction to legally redomicile the business to the US in 2023, which it completed in April 2024, with 100% shareholder support. This transaction was the first step in its US domiciliation strategy. The Company is currently completing a transaction to secure a US exchange (NASDAQ) public stock listing, which is expected to secure the capital resources necessary to complete its US domiciliation as well as execute on its business plan focused on the US market.

The Company is focused on building a team of business professionals and leaders in the engineering, R&D, product management and business development areas out of our Charlotte, North Carolina location. These key resources will help build the organization structure and processes in Charlotte, NC, which will be the cornerstone to add talented people to the US team, each of whom will:

  • Offer US market experience and perspectives bringing innovative approaches to problem solving and business plan execution.

  • Has a deep understanding of the requirements for advanced reactor development.
  • Assist in the creation of the organization architecture and structures based in Charlotte and necessary for the successful design development of the Company IMSR plant.

  • Has skillset and experience that relate to the following role:


The R&D Materials Scientist/Engineer, under the direction of the R&D Director, is primarily responsible for materials qualification related activities, including development and execution of test programs as part of TEs overall R&D Program. Within this role, responsibilities include:

  • Providing subject matter expertise on materials science;
  • Experimental design, test data analysis and participation in resolution of technical issues;
  • Authorship of documents accompanying the material qualification process in coordination with Engineering, Safety, Quality, Licensing stakeholders and external parties;
  • Oversight and/or execution of the materials qualification activities;
  • Presentation of test results, assumptions, risks, and constraints to the R&D Director and proposing paths forward;
  • Collaboration with the R&D Project Coordinator to maintain and update schedule including status of all projects;
  • Collaboration with the TE Engineering to support design development.

Requirements

  • Masters degree (or higher) in Materials Science or Materials Engineering, or related field;
  • Minimum 4 years of work experience in nuclear power industry or academia conducting research activities relating to materials science;
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and the execution of research and development activities;
  • Knowledge of material characterization techniques (LF, XRF, DSC, XRD, SEM and others)
  • Working knowledge of modeling tools (Python, MATLAB and others);
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask & manage numerous short- and long-term projects concurrently;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills; and
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining strong relationships across all levels of the organization and with external customers and vendors


Assets

  • Professional Engineer Certification, or eligible to obtain PE Certification
  • Knowledge on the development of custom constitutive models for high-temperature materials
  • Knowledge of the nuclear design codes & standards (ASME, CSA)
  • Experience with testing of irradiated materials
  • Knowledge of graphite performance under irradiation at high temperature and experience in testing graphite as a material class
  • Knowledge of fluoride salts performance
  • Knowledge of structural alloy performance
