Summary:

​This associate will interface with all Supervisors, Managers, crews, representatives of the Association of American Railroads, Road & Rail, our customer and corporate management on all aspects of safety and quality for the Terminal.

Purpose:

To coordinate activities of AWC, safety, quality and claims operations. To conduct quality assurance audits, assuring standards are maintained, and product integrity is preserved. To resolve quality, production, claims, safety and efficiency concerns collaboratively with the Terminal Manager. Provide additional operational supervision for all facets of the operation as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • ​Professional understanding and experience in managing Driver Qualification Files, Vehicle Files, and DVIR File management is a must. Responsible for EPN program, Vehicle Registration, Hours of Service compliance.
  • Responsible for all aspects of accountability for DOT Compliance
  • Enforces and coordinates operational safety activities (i.e., safety meetings, workplace training/education, new safety initiatives/programs and safety policies).
  • Performs periodic safety, environmental and quality reviews at the facility using established AAR, GM and any other requirements, OSHA and corporate safety, environmental and ISO 9001 criteria to evaluate and maintain conformance.
  • Manages safety, vehicle damage claims, worker compensation claims, DOT and quality.
  • Ensures compliance with all EPA requirements including but not limited to SWPP, SPCC, Hazard Waste Generator permit, Hazard business plan, etc.
  • Chairs the monthly Safety Committee, completing minutes of meetings and advising the Terminal Manager of critical meeting content and suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensures all AAR, ISO, OSHA, EPA, DOT, FMCSA, CBA and AWC policies, processes and procedures are followed and updated.
  • Monitors and performs safety briefings.
  • Investigates all accidents and injuries and completes required reports (600, 601 and OSHA Logs).
  • Keeps abreast of changes with AAR, OSHA, EPA, ISO, DOT, FMCSA and other regulations and advises management of necessary actions to remain compliant.
  • Performs safety observations, JSA's and PPE risk assessments including inspection of vans and equipment to ensure proper maintenance, forwarding repair requests to the appropriate manager.
  • Ensures that all OSHA logs are posted and taken down in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Maintains Safety Manuals and provide updates on items such as PPE lists, site and floor plans,

evacuation plans, emergency preparedness plans and hazardous chemical lists.

  • Under the direction of AWC management, act as the facilitator for third party AAR quality reviews.
  • Observes, documents and assists all associates in daily tasks, instructing them on appropriate work behavior and/or performance issues as needed through positive coaching, mentoring and issuing of disciplinary reprimands as necessary to ensure AWC safety, quality and work standards are met.
  • Understand and abide by all ISO 9001 and AAR quality requirements and trains all associates as required to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains a positive work environment through excellent communication and professional and ethical behavior to build and maintain excellent working relationships with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Terminal Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to climb ladders at heights up to 30 feet.
  • Must have a good sense of balance and ability to maintain 3 points of contact for safety regulations.
  • Ability to drive both automatic and manual transmission vehicles.
  • Must have a positive attitude, demeanor, and ability to work in a team-orientated culture with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to occasionally work rotating shifts and/or weekends to meet the needs of the terminals and associates.
  • Ability to use persuasion instead of disciplinary tactics to resolve non-compliances as necessary
  • ​High computer literacy skills and experience.
  • Ability to review vehicle equipment and other terminal equipment for mechanical defects.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all-weather 75% of the time.
  • Ability and willingness to travel.


Minimum Experience & Education:

  • ​3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Minimum of 6-months experience as a trainer.
  • 1+ years of accident and injury experience and/or OSHA training
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Experience managing vehicle files
  • Previous experience managing DQ files
  • DOT drug and alcohol program management
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Previous IFTA Reporting experience


Education & Experience-:

  • ​3+ years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing and/or logistics environment
  • 3+ years DOT regulatory compliance experience
  • 1+ years supervising in a union environment
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Risk management experience
  • CSP Certification
  • Training and/or education in Quality Management Systems, ISO or Green Belt.
  • OSHA 30 Hour
